Air Quality Consultants, Inc.
Professional Environmental Inspectors
Air Quality Consultants was founded in 1992 with the goal of championing a solution to a widespread and under-served public health threat in Virginia – indoor air pollution and poor water quality.
Clean Air – A Basic Right for All
Without air and water, humans cannot live. This is a simple fact even children know. However, every day, millions of people breathe air and drink water that is far less than quality. The danger this poses to human health is not to be understated.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), exposure to indoor air pollutants can have serious health ramifications. “Some health effects may show up shortly after a single exposure or repeated exposures to a pollutant. These include irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. Soon after exposure…symptoms of some diseases such as asthma may show up, be aggravated or worsened.” Those symptoms are just the short-term effects!
The EPA goes on to explain “Other health effects may show up either years after exposure has occurred or only after long or repeated periods of exposure. These effects, which include some respiratory diseases, heart disease and cancer, can be severely debilitating or fatal.”
Clearly, the quality of the air we breathe is no small matter. With an average of 90% of our lives spent indoors, we simply cannot afford the health risks of breathing polluted air in our homes and offices.
In line with the reality of the dangers of poor indoor air quality, Air Quality Consultants is committed to thoroughly testing for and identifying potential dangers in the air supply in your residential or commercial property. The EPA itself recommends “It is prudent to try to improve the indoor air quality in your home even if symptoms are not noticeable.”
Water Pollutants – Silent Killers
As humans, our bodies are made up primarily of water. The human body requires about one gallon of water every day to function properly. Now, imagine if that gallon of water we drink was carrying dangerous bacteria or harmful pollutants, such as lead? The negative health effects could be widespread.
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes the danger of the consumption of lead. WHO explains that “Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer profound and permanent adverse health effects, particularly affecting the development of the brain and nervous system.” They add that high lead levels can lead to “increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney damage” in adults as well as pose serious risk to unborn babies whose mothers have been exposed to lead.
Whether from lead in your water source, exposure to lead paint in your home, or wherever the problem may be coming from, lead and other pollutants, such as waterborne diseases are a serious threat. Never underestimate the danger of a compromised water supply.
